River Road United Methodist Church
Richmond, VA - Rebuilt by Lewis & Hitchcock
The 1962 Wicks organ had problems with the electro-mechanical relay and combination action. When the church looked into the possible solutions, they also decided to complete the specification of the organ. Our work was accomplished in stages, keeping the time down to a minimum. The work of converting the organ to multiplex action and rebuilding the console with a sophisticated combination action, transposer and MIDI implementation was completed in the fall of 2000. The new stops were added in the spring and summer of 2001. There are now 99 levels of memory, multiple crescendo setting, and Manual Transfer for the Great and Choir, including the pistons for those manuals. A sequencer can record and play back performances. The new ranks make it possible to play all styles of music, as well as easily accompanying soloists and choirs. The Choir Director is Don Myers and the organist is Mary Ericson.
